I’ve been trying to stop my “delete anything old I’ve ever made” crusade, but it’s hard. I’m really weird about stuff like that. If I’m not using it, or nothing interesting is going on with it, I tend to dispose of it (whatever “it” is). The downside is I have nothing to show off to demonstrate I’ve “done stuff” before.

I’ve been making websites, blogs, whatever you want to call things that have a domain name since 2006, the year I graduated high school (I think I was just finishing up when I bought my first domain name).

It’s all lost to time, aside from what the Internet Archive has picked up, which isn’t much. Some of that’s probably for the best, as I’ve had some lows in my time that probably resulted in posts I don’t want to revisit.

The main point is I’ve got a pretty good history of internet and website evolution under my belt. I started out with raw XHTML and CSS, then moved on to a PHP-powered barebones blog, then moved on to a proper CMS, namely WordPress, in about 2007. I even made a custom theme and everything.

I’ve messed with WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, BlogEngine.Net, SilverStripe, Moveable Type, MediaWiki, MODX, Ghost, and probably some others.

I’ve even messed with the paid offerings, such as WordPress.com, Ghost Pro, SquareSpace, PostHaven, blah blah blah.

Right now, I’m using Micro.blog, which spits out a static blog site, and it’s worked wonderfully.

Yeah, it’s fun spinning up a VPS and rolling everything yourself…and I can do it. I feel like because of my background messing around with getting content on the internet, I’m able to appreciate services such as Micro.blog even more.

There was no point to this post, I guess. I just wish I had more online “history” to show people. I’m envious of those who have ALL their blog posts from post 1. Keep it up!
